Sorry for the silence

Life has been a little busy the past 2 weeks.
Last week was the Craft and Quilt Show, Melbourne. Was a busy week for me, working for Amitie and Pfaff Sewing Machines... and this week the Pfaff theme continued with 4 days of Machine training.

More details and photos up this weekend.

Music Confession

I know this song is not a musical masterpiece but I can't help but do a little happy dance when I hear it... and the film clip - awesome. Not too sure about the blue hair though!

Cloth Fabric - INSTORE NOW

Cloth Fabric is a small, independent fabric company that specialises in furnishing fabrics, but for those that haven't heard Cloth has done a beautiful, lighter weight fabric suitable for patchwork and craft and I am very excited because Amitie has just added Cloth to it'd wide range of fabric!

The fabrics are printed on natural fibres (cotton, hemp, linen) and use non toxic ink. Designed by Julie Patterson and hand screen printed by her small team.

They are just simply devine! We will have Cloth with us at this weeks show (starts Thursday at Jeff's Shed - pop down and say hello)!

Wardrobe update...

Been busy today but really can't complain. Thought it might be nice to wear something at next weeks Craft & Quilt Fair that is made out of fabric here at amitie... Could not go past the Anna Marie Roundabout Dress made out of a beautiful Kaffe Fasset print (both available at Amitie). Can't wait to see how it turns out!

The litte things

It's a very grey day here in Bentleigh - it's cold and windy but something a little cheerful caught my eye...

Apparently the balloon fairy had visited and left a little surprise. Sometimes it's the little things in life that put a smile on your face!

Love of Gossip

For those who haven't heard it, I suggest you have a listen. Music for Men, the 4th album by Gossip is a favourite of mine! I loved this album from the moment I first listened to it. I think I drove Mum mad with it. We bought it on a work trip in QLD and being the only CD we had in the rental car it got played... and played... and played Sorry Mum. It has a great disco feel to some of the songs, but doesn't stray too far from their edgy indie-rock style.

You'll be singing and dancing in no time!

A day with the girls

Not very long ago a friend of mine asked me to be a part of her photo shoot. The idea: 3 girls, cruising around richmond, striking a pose and wearing a lot of badges.
I was a little nervous... but everything was OK and I have to admit it... I had a really good time! It was a day full of silliness and laughter.

I Think these photos really capture how much fun we were having! And it goes to show, all you need are good friends and a few brightly coloured walls to take some photos worth framing!

Have you heard the news?

We're heading in a new direction here at Amitie. Don't panic - we're still going to have fantastic fabrics for patchwork, and beautiful patterns. The staff are remaining the same. We're still at the same location

BUT ...

We're starting to stock fabrics for dress making and we're very excited! Fabrics have been coming in from near and far, and they're so inspiring.

I'm constantly saying "That would made a really cool skirt",

or "I'm making a pair of leggings with this one"...

We've got pretty floral prints, to the more funky prints.

Now all I have to do is find some time to sit down at the machine and sew. If only there were more hours in the day!

Thailand

After 9 hours in uncomfortable JetStar cattle class (lesson learnt... leg room is worth a couple of extra dollars), I arrived in Thailand. We landed at 10 pm and got driven into Bangkok. Because it was dark I didn't quite grasp how different this city is compared to Melbourne... it's a completely different world! Talk about a population explosion. The streets are crowded, and full of life. Street vendors as far as the eye can see, and taxis. Lots of taxis. I am so glad I saw Bangkok, but am in no rush to go back. The shopping was good, but the city is hot and smelly... not a very relaxing back drop for what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday!

Next stop - Koh Phangan A.K.A Heaven on earth. If anybody is planning a trip to Thailand, I really recommend Centara on Phangan. It was perfection. Private beach, bungalow style rooms, friendly staff and peaceful. Of all the places I saw, this is one place I can't wait to revisit and show to my loved ones.
Koh Samui was like Koh Phangan but a little more fast paced. Great for shopping, and some amazing restaurants.

My holiday was cut short, but I did manage to make it to Phuket for one night to visit a very dear friend of mine. She made sure my last night in Thailand was one to remember and lead me to Dino Bar - An amazing cocktail bar that is Flinstone's themed and outside is a baby elephant. It was amazing. He wasn't chained up like a lot of the animals you come across over there. He was a happy and playful thing who loved the bananas you could buy to feed him.

Thailand is a place I will never forget - I saw some beautiful things while there and it made me realise what an amazing life I live back home.
